Referee Courses

FIBA, basketball’s international controlling body, regularly review the rules of basketball in an endeavour to

  • Clarify and simplify the current rules.
  • Promote uniformity of rules in all competitions
  • Improve the spectacle of the game.

Action Days are run periodically to update referee knowledge of rules and interpretation.

REFEREE ACTION EVENING 23RD APRIL 2009

This action evening was run by John Reardon, a Junior Referee Development Officer for BNSW.  Our association would like to thank John for the enjoyable evening where we discussed many issues associated with refereeing, including pre-game conference, player and coach management, block/charge and clarification of the interpretation of the new rules.

The course was attended by 19 referees, from trainees to 1A,  and all attendees are to be commended on their efforts in continuing their education.  A letter will be forwarded to all referees who attended this course for them to place in their refereeing accreditation folder.

RECENT ADDITIONS TO OUR REFEREEING FOLD

Congratulations to Lawrence Heggie, Hannah Kypers and Ashley Lambert.  These 3 young players have recently completed their level O course and will begin doing their practical refereeing shortly.

Thankyou to Manesh DaSilva, Sue Greenup and Paul Simpson for attending the adults only level O referees course on Friday 15th May.  They show great promise and we look forward to seeing them on the court.
